WHAT: Cheese & wine festival

WHY: Usually the presence of both wine and cheese are enough to convince people of the magical event that is cheese and wine. HOWEVER, for the skeptics and lactose INTOLERANT among you, i will gladly elaborate on the finer aspects of this event that make it a must-experience festival. Cheese and wine occurs annually on the beautiful Sandringham estate on the outskirt of stellenbosch. Surrounded by breathtaking MOUNTAINs and VINEYARDS the event hosts and celebrates a COLORFUL collection of MUSICIANS, food SPECTACLES, comedy shows (by the famous NATHaniel himself) and of course wine...lots and lots of great wine!
in order to give an honest review of this event, a group of friends and I, dressed in our sunday best, flocked to the festival. The vibe at the festival is honestly perfectly suited to INDUCE an atmosphere of free flowing exploration and social interaction. With plenty of seats, free tastings of wine and a vast collection of food (When i say a vast collection, i mean enough food diversity to satisfy the taste of a bus full of tourists on their way to a food allergy convention) Anyway, the day was spent in a cycle of sitting, laughing, exploring, tasting and tasting some more. The essence of the event, as i experienced it, was centered around EXCITEMENT and extravagant experiences. Kind of like a pleasant sensory overload. It is an event that truly has so much to offer that it cannot be experienced within a single attendance. DEFINITELY a bucket list event! (If you don't believe me..I dare you to try it...and if you do, i will see you there next year because i will definitely be going again)
WHAT: SHIRAZ & Charcuterie Festival

WHERE: Anthonij Rupert Farm, Franschhoek
COST: R280 PER PERSON
WHY: The SHIRAZ & CHARCUTERIE FESTIVAL is the perfect place to un(wine)d (See what i did there) on a beautiful saturday morning. NESTLED in the beautiful franshhoek valley, this festival boasts a VARIETY of premium wine brands and delicious delicacies that enhance the flavour of the red wine. I am PERSONALLY a huge fan of shiraz, whether it be for cooking or actually adding to the food...red wine turns even the smallest OCCASION into a warm and memorable event (Unless you have too much...in which case it becomes less memorable) Anyway, due to this personal attachment to shiraz, i was particularly EXCITED for this event. in my life i have come to realize that excitement is a double edged sword, fore although excitement adds flavour to life, it has the ability to lead to DISAPPOINTMENT. That being said, i was not DISAPPOINTED by this truly special event. I truly appreciated the personal touch that this event brings to wine tasting, as each wine FARM sent passionate and informed representatives to give a PERSONAL explanation of each unique blend. this once again reminded me of the duality that exists in good wine, wine SIMULTANEOUSLY exists as an ART FORM that should be appreciated and as delicious taste SENSATION that SHOULD simply be enjoyed. The other major selling point was the food brands that were selected, each brand represented quality and flavour that truly paired well with wine. (and they had maceroons...which is a major personal selling point! I may or may not have consumed close to 20 of these little treats) to conclude my experience of the event in an elegant way, the SHIRAZ & CHARCUTERIE FESTIVAL is an event that combines a beautiful environment, with premium products and the warmth and human element of the story behind each product!
