Bacon...most of us are familiar with the tasty breakfast sensation that has become a POP CULTURE phenomenon. however, apart from a brief feature in a nick jonas song and a entertaining feature on national geographic...how much do we really know about this seemingly SIMPLE snack?
after i had grudgingly admitted my INADEQUACIES when it comes to bacon trivia...I contacted someone who can certainly be regarded as an expert in the field. Richard Bosman, the brilliant brain behind bacon on bree, which is an amazing RESTAURANT on bree street that (in my opinion) offers the largest range of delicious bacon products this side of the EQUATOR. However, if you ask richard, i am over-GLAMORIZING the situation...as he puts it..."It is nothing more than a damn good bacon SANDWICH". A Damn good sandwich indeed, good in this case having a double meaning. The first meaning obviously referring to the delicious nature of the bacon. the second meaning however, is a little more subtle, but equally if not more important. you see, the bacon in the products of bacon on bree are produced by richard himself and are GUARANTEED to be "good" in the sense of being of high quality and COMPLETELY AUTHENTIC. As Richard explains it, gone are the days ARTIFICIALLY increasing bacon volume by injecting it with water, of having a pan of bacon reduced to tiny SHRIVED memories of THEIR former self, of essentially BUYING a poor excuse for bacon. Now is the day of quality, authenticity and damn good sandwiches.
The authenticity of this unique bacon joint truly lies in the story of the bosmans. with a combination of luck, knowledge, passion and courage, the bosmans left behind their corporate EXISTENCE to open bacon on bree. With it's warm atmosphere, HUMOROUS nature and great menu, Bacon on Bree has become one of the must-go spot for any cape town trip. With SANDWICHES like the harvey SPECTER and the salma hayek, it is DEFINITELY a place to experience and not just read about!
