Going to the hairdresser normally doesn't involve a dramatic story. However, in this case, my discovery of Guy's Chop Shop was no mere mundane feat...it was a BLATANT act of REBELLION against the OPPRESSIVE PRESENCE of winter that had invaded my beloved town of Stellenbosch.
It all started as i reached for my third pair of socks in a rather MEEK attempt the fight the hypothermia commonly INDUCED by my flat. There was little i could do about the cold. Nonetheless, my REBELLIOUS side yearned for a dramatic "stuff you" to the impending season. So, in a futile attempt to RETAIN my summery appearance...I decided to go blonde! At this point it should also be mentioned that my natural skin tone could be classified a translucent (which is one shade up from paper-white and one shade down from luminous). Therefore my acclaimed "summery appearance" consisted mostly of a VAGUELY pink tinge to my face. Anyway...i had taken a stand (on the firm foundation of three layers of socks) and i was not planning this adventure alone!
Three days later, Daniel and I confidently walked into Guy's Chop Shop. According to Guy, the concept for his establishment is a unique combination of ideas that have originated from his personal taste, beer with friends and Cool pinterest pictures. With a modern feel, current music and beer on the menu, Guy's Chop Shop is DEFINITELY a place i could spend Hours in. This being said, the process did indeed take hours (this is mostly due to the fact that my hair is thick enough to justify CUTTING it with a lawnmower). After ACQUIRING Guy's expert knowledge, a bit of chatting and of course browsing pinterest...we decided on our new looks. Daniel was going to bleach his hair to an icy blonde. I, ON A LESS DRAMATIC NOTE, WAS TO GET BLONDE HIGHLIGHTS THAT, ACCORDING TO GUY, WOULD ENHANCE MY NATURAL COPPERY APPEARANCE AND GET ME MY SOUGHT AFTER SUMMERY GLOW. My time consuming DePIGMENTATION process allowed me to delve a little deeper into the culture of the trendy little establishment. it was at this point that i discovered a key factor to the shop's success. The shop has created a culture of open communication and CONTINUOUS growth, as the team is encouraged to attend training courses and experiment with TECHNIQUES. This approach is not only COMMENDABLE within the context of Guy's chop shop, but also an important truth within the context of life. Bearing in mind the dynamic philosophy on which our stylish new hair was based, it came as no SURPRISED that our looks were a grand success. The truth of the matter is, that i did not only leave with confidence, but BOTH Daniel and i had built a relationship with the team and had fallen in love with the culture of the Place.
