Growing up in the majestic mountains of Mpumalanga, I have always been at my most comfortable in nature. So when i found myself in the sophisticated town of FRANSCHHOEK at a food and wine pairing hosted by Le FRANSCHHOEK...I will admit i was slightly out of my comfort zone. I mean it was one of those events where there are more knives and forks on the table than I own in my entire flat (which in hindsight ISN'T that much of an ACHIEVEMENT as my student flat currently only owns one teaspoon and a few other mismatched items). Anyway, to do this spectacular event justice, I first have to set the scene: Once a month, Le FRANSCHHOEK hosts a food and wine pairing. Recruiting both a local winemaker and a local chef to combine their talents in a TANTALIZING exploration of taste! The night consists of live music, intimate details of the wine process straight from the mouth of the maker and of course a menu that is nothing short of a celebration of textures and flavours. This month, Daniel and I had the honour of attending the event which celebrated the wine from the local Rickety Bridge farm. My initial nerves were IMMEDIATELY disarmed as we entered the event to discover a warm and intimate setting filled with people laughing and enjoying the company of good friends, food and wine! I have attended a few food and wine events, but i can honestly say the personal touch of the people involved make this monthly OCCURRENCE a unique and a must-experience event!
