I have always been a firm BELIEVER in approaching life with an attitude of excellence and putting your unique essence into everything you do. For this reason i was instantly enthralled by THE triple three gin distillery!
The story of triple three originated in the freezing winters of germany, where according to Florian, one of the charismatic makers of triple three Gin, THERE was nothing else to do but DISTILL. This craft TRAVELED to south africa where it thrived with the unique flora, quality produce, climate and of course the culture of sundowners (because let's be honest, no one does it like we can!). With all the wonderful and weird flavours south africa has to offer, it is hard to believe that the makers narrowed the range down to three SKILLFULLY crafted flavours. These include african botanicals, citrus infusion and 100% juniper berry. since everybody is a gin critic these days, i know what you are going to ask next...what is so special about this range? Well, not only is every bottle hand crafted, but triple three has succeeded in the EXTRAORDINARY feat of creating their 100% juniper gin. This gin is one of a handful in the world and the only gin in south africa that is made from a single ingredient. When asked about the origin of this unique gin, Florian explained that their 100% juniper gin is simply a show of excellent CRAFTSMANSHIP and highly skilled distillation. you see, other gins often hide distillation flaws with a complicated concoction of flavours, but when you use a single ingredient, it shows the authenticity of the gin. as if this wasn't exceptional enough, juniper is a natural flavour ENHANCER! (At this point, you need not ask which gin is my favourite, i have made a woefully tragic attempt at retaining my writing objectivity!) Anyway, since i am MERELY a gin enthusiast and have not yet graduated as a gin expert, i wanted to know more about the flavour profiles (which is a fancy word i found online) of the gin. to my absolute delight, triple three had a BRILLIANTLY simple philosophy: You get exactly what the bottle says! Which means when you are drinking the citrus infusion gin, the citrus flavour will envelope your senses starting with the aroma and carrying through to the taste. The other question, that would aid in my graduation as a gin expert, was how one tells the difference between a good and a bad gin? The answer to the question DEFINITELY caught me by SURPRISE and produced more than a giggle from my lips. apparently, If a gin smells like nail polish...it is generally bad! However, to build upon this informative gem, florian added that taste is subjective and the best way to find your flavour is to experiment and have fun with gin. if there is one thing i will take away from triple three (besides the HILARIOUS nail polish rule) it is that a combination of simplicity, passion and excellence will always create a magical result!
"Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude!"
